Khao Kwan is a small Thai restaurant in Kai Bae, on the southwest coast of Koh Chang, run by chef Nongrat Noppawan, known as Chef Yaa, who comes from Phatthalung in southern Thailand. She opened it in late 2020 after twenty years running a cooking school on the island.
The kitchen buys from local markets and presents traditional Thai food with a modern touch. The menu includes miang kham, crab spring rolls, a ceviche of local grouper, crab roe relish, crab curry, roasted duck curry and grilled kingfish with a spicy flower salad, with vegetarian and vegan options too.
The dining room seats about 30, and the sign has no English name, so look for the Beach Babe bar next door. Reservations are recommended.
51/5 Ko Chang, Ko Chang District, Trat 23170 (Kai Bae, next to Beach Babe bar)
11:00-15:00 and 17:00-20:30; closed Wednesday
