Just days before the nation pauses to honor its educators on January 16th, the official motto for Thailand’s Teacher’s Day 2026 (Wan Kru) has been released.
In Thailand, it is a long-standing tradition for the Prime Minister to bestow a unique slogan (Kham Khwan) upon the teaching profession each year. These mottos usually reflect the government's vision for education, often focusing on technology, discipline, or development.
However, the 2026 motto marks a shift back to the core spiritual value of Thai culture: Gratitude.
Here is the official motto for this year.
Thai: "คนไทยทุกคนเป็นศิษย์มีครู"
Phonetic (Karaoke): Khon Thai Tuk Khon Pen Sit Mee Kru
English Translation: "Every Thai person is a student who has a teacher."
This year's motto was delivered by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who presided over the 70th Teacher's Day announcements.
Unlike previous years that focused heavily on "modernization" or "adapting to the future," the 2026 motto is short, punchy, and deeply emotional.
It serves as a humble reminder that no matter how successful, powerful, or wealthy a person becomes, whether they are a doctor, a CEO, or even the Prime Minister, they did not get there alone. Everyone was once a student. Everyone had a "Kru" (teacher) who guided them.
It emphasizes the Thai concept of "Sit Mee Kru" (ศิษย์มีครู), which refers to someone who is well-taught, grateful, and protected by the blessings of their mentors. Not having a teacher (or ignoring them) is seen as being unguided or lost.
To see how the messaging has changed over time, here is a look back at the mottos from the last few years:
