Thairanked vs Tripadvisor

Tripadvisor is the biggest travel audience in the world and claiming your listing there is free, so claim it. The catch is what it takes to be seen on it: rank is driven by the quality, quantity and recency of reviews, which means you are in a permanent race for fresh reviews against every competitor in your city — and the paid ways to jump that queue are a subscription and cost-per-click ads.

What mattersThairankedTripadvisor
Cost modelOne flat listing fee from 399 THB a year. No subscription tiers, no cost per click — you know the total before you pay it.The listing itself is free to claim. Beyond that: Business Advantage is a paid annual subscription priced per property, and Sponsored Placements are billed per click against a monthly budget.
How placement is earnedEditors research and rank, so a business with fewer reviews than the chain down the road can still be placed on merit. Verified listings sort above unclaimed ones; paid featured spots are capped at three per list and always badged. The Popularity Ranking, built on the quality, quantity and recency of reviews and how consistent they are over time. Recent reviews count for more than old ones, so a strong position has to be re-earned continuously.
User input & votesReaders vote a business up or down on every list, and upvotes are the first thing the organic order sorts on. Verified businesses get Line, WhatsApp and Facebook share links that invite a thumbs up in one tap — one tap, not a written review.Traveller reviews and bubble ratings, at a scale nobody in Thailand can match. Worth knowing: your management responses, however good, are not part of the ranking.
Commission on bookingsZero. We never take a cut of a booking, a cover or a sale. Not on the listing itself: its business products are a subscription and per-click ads, not a cut of your revenue. Be aware that the wider Tripadvisor group also runs booking marketplaces (Viator, TheFork) whose terms are separate — selling through those is a different commercial arrangement, and we will not put numbers on terms they do not publish.
Placement longevityYour listing runs for a year and stays published and indexed the whole time. Position moves with votes, views and editorial review. Renewal is yearly and never automatic. The free listing stays forever, but its rank decays: older reviews count for less than recent ones. Sponsored Placements run only while the monthly budget does.
Setup effortOne form and one payment. Our team reviews the listing and publishes it, usually within two business days, and keeps the details current for you afterwards.Claim and verify in the Management Center, which is free — then the ongoing work begins, because both the quantity and the recency of your reviews feed the ranking.
Audience & languagesSmaller and narrower on purpose: people deciding where to go in Thailand, around two-thirds of them abroad, reading in 11 languages. Every list is about this country, so nothing competes with Rome for attention.Global, and enormous — a genuine advantage. The trade-off is that your listing competes for attention inside a worldwide platform rather than sitting in a list about Thailand.
ReportingPage views on your listing and the votes readers leave. Honest limitation: no competitive benchmarking suite here.A genuine strength, on the paid tier: Business Advantage includes analytics on your property, your competitors and your visitors, plus views and clicks on your listing features.

What Tripadvisor does well

Scale, and a ranking system that cannot be bought. Claiming your listing is free, and once you have it the Popularity Ranking runs on the quality, quantity and recency of your reviews and how consistent they are over time — which is to say, on whether you actually look after guests. For a hotel or a well-reviewed restaurant in a tourist city, no other platform puts you in front of that many travellers, in that many countries, at the exact moment they are choosing. The paid analytics are strong too: Business Advantage gives you data on your own property, your competitors and your visitors. If you are in hospitality in Thailand and you have not claimed your Tripadvisor listing, that is a bigger gap than anything this page is selling.

Where Thairanked is different

The structural difference is who does the work. On Tripadvisor, rank is something you accumulate: quality, quantity and recency of reviews, re-earned every month, which quietly favours whoever has the most guests to ask. A small, excellent place with twenty reviews loses to a mediocre one with two thousand. On Thairanked, editors research the category and place businesses on merit, then reader upvotes move the order from there — and an upvote takes one tap from a share link, not a written review. Getting listed is one flat fee from 399 THB a year, which is the whole bill: no subscription tier above it and no per-click charge beside it. Paid featured spots exist, are capped at three per list, and always carry a badge. We are far smaller than Tripadvisor and we will not pretend otherwise: 500,000+ page views Jan–Jul 2026 — on track for 1M+ in 2026, around two-thirds of readers outside Thailand, published in 11 languages. What that buys you is a page where being good at your job is enough to be placed well.

Which should you choose?

Claim Tripadvisor first — it costs nothing and it is where a large share of international travellers still start. Then look at your review count honestly. If you already sit near the top of your city ranking there, Tripadvisor is doing the work and a listing is a supplement, not a rescue. If you are a newer or smaller business staring at a page-four position that you cannot review your way out of quickly, an editorially ranked list is a different route to the same traveller: you are placed on merit rather than on volume, and the fee is fixed rather than a subscription plus clicks. Skip us if your customers are almost all local walk-ins — around two-thirds of our readers are planning a trip from outside Thailand, which is either exactly your customer or not your customer at all.
