BANGKOK (Feb 9, 2026) – The Bhumjaithai Party has emerged as the clear winner in Thailand’s 2026 General Election, solidifying its position as the dominant force in Thai politics and paving the way for incumbent Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul to form a new coalition government.
After a heated campaign season that saw clashes over economic policies, cannabis regulations, and constitutional reform, voters turned out in large numbers on Sunday, February 8. By the early hours of Monday morning, the unofficial count by the Election Commission (ECT) indicated a shift in the political landscape.
With 98% of votes counted, the breakdown of the House of Representatives (500 seats) is as follows:
(Note: Official certification of results is expected within 60 days.)
The victory for Bhumjaithai signals a preference for stability among the Thai electorate. Prime Minister Anutin, who campaigned on a platform of "Eating Well, Living Well" (Pak Tong Im) and neutralizing political conflict, successfully positioned himself as the middleman between the conservative establishment and the progressive movement.
"The people have spoken, and they have chosen peace and development," Mr. Anutin stated in a brief press conference late Sunday night.
Unlike the deadlock seen in previous elections, the path to a government is clear. Analysts predict a coalition similar to the outgoing administration:
This coalition would command a comfortable majority in the Lower House, ensuring legislative stability for the next four years.
Financial markets in Asia reacted positively to the news on Monday morning, with the Thai Baht strengthening slightly against the US Dollar, reflecting investor confidence in the continuity of government policies.
