Ko Libong is a triangular island about 4 km off the coast of Kantang district, Trang, about 15 minutes by long-tail boat from Hat Yao Pier. The seagrass beds around it are a key feeding ground for dugongs.
Seagrass loss since 2019 cut dugong numbers sharply, but local groups and universities are restoring the beds, and in April 2026 drone footage showed dugongs mating off the island. Visitors stay in small resorts and homestays, take boat trips with local guides to look for dugongs, and visit the fishing villages and mangroves. A private long-tail from Hat Yao Pier costs at least 1,000 baht; scheduled ferries vary.
