Baan Benjarong is a family restaurant in Wiang Tai that has been serving traditional Thai cooking in Pai for more than 25 years. An elderly couple runs it, with the husband looking after the dining room and his wife cooking in the kitchen.
Old photographs line the walls and the mood is calm, set apart from the busier tourist strip. Shrimp in tamarind sauce is the dish regulars point to, and the kitchen is confident with spice and aromatic flavours. Prices are modest.
It is an evening place, opening daily from 17:00 to 20:30, so arriving early is wise.
