The Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan remains the world’s ultimate beach rave, pulling crowds of up to 30,000 for luminous all-night revelry each month. By 2026, this iconic celebration has expanded. Now you can immerse yourself in a full week of music, dancing, and energy across the island, from jungle raves to waterfalls and sunrise chillouts.
Locals threw the first Full Moon Party on Haad Rin Beach in the late 1980s for a small group of travelers. Word spread, and the celebration exploded in size through the ‘90s. DJs fueled the rise of EDM and trance in Thailand. The party became a monthly ritual, transforming the island into Southeast Asia’s most famous all-night music festival and drawing an international crowd. By 2026, the event has evolved with offshoots on nearby beaches, pop-up events and new music genres, while Haad Rin still anchors the tradition.
Travelers flocking to Koh Phangan in 2026 need more than stamina. You must pick your parties wisely. Not every event on the calendar delivers the true Full Moon buzz. Our ranking highlights the five parties you can’t miss if you want to capture the full energy of the island’s party circuit.

The Bucket List Legend
This is the reason you are here. Stretching across 1km of Haad Rin Sunrise Beach, this is the main event. The beach transforms into a massive festival ground with roughly 10-12 different sound systems facing the ocean.
The Vibe: Neon body paint, fire skipping ropes, and buckets of cheap cocktails.
The Music: Each bar plays something different. Go to Drop In Bar for commercial hits and fire shows, Tommy Resort for Trance/Psytrance, and Cactus Bar for R&B and Hip Hop. It is chaotic, messy, and absolutely legendary.
Opening Time: Dusk till dawn (Best time to arrive: 22:00 - 02:00).
Location: Haad Rin Sunrise Beach, Koh Phangan.
How to get there:
From Thong Sala Pier: Take a shared Songthaew (Taxi Truck) for 100-200 THB.
From Samui: Speedboats run all night directly to the Haad Rin pier.
Where to buy a ticket: Walk-in only. You buy a wristband at the alleyways entering the beach.
Price: 200 THB (Cash only).

The Magical Pre-Party
Held usually 1 day before the Full Moon Party, this is widely considered the "better" party by music lovers. Located deep in the Baan Tai jungle, it features incredible light installations, professional costume dancers, and a much better sound system than the beach. The music is strictly House and Techno. It feels like a mini-festival where people dress up in elaborate costumes (feathers, glitter, animal prints).
Opening Time: 21:00 – 07:00 (Held 1 day before Full Moon).
Location: Baan Tai Jungle (Jungle Experience Venue).
How to get there:
Taxi: Any Songthaew driver knows "Jungle Experience." It is located in the Baan Tai area.

The Premium Festival Experience
If the Full Moon Party is chaotic, the Half Moon is organized and professional. Held twice a month (one week before and one week after Full Moon), this is a proper gated festival in the forest. It has 3 stages (Main, G-Floor, and The Cave), distinct food zones, and high-end production values. In 2026, it is the most expensive party on the island, but the quality of DJs and safety make it worth it.
Opening Time: 20:00 – Late (Held 2 weeks apart).
Location: Baan Tai Forest.
How to get there:
Taxi: Located on the main road between Thong Sala and Haad Rin. Taxis drop you right at the gate.

Highlight
The Techno Rave in the Rocks
Held 2 days before and 2 days after the Full Moon, this party is set literally inside a rocky clearing with a waterfall (Sramanora Waterfall). The setting is stunning, with huge boulders surrounding the dancefloor. The music is generally harder Techno and Tech-House. It attracts a cooler, underground crowd that wants to dance until the sun comes up over the jungle canopy.
Opening Time: 20:00 – Late.
Location: Sramanora Waterfall, Baan Kai.
How to get there:
Taxi: Ask for "Waterfall Party." Note: The taxi drops you at the bottom of a hill; you have to hike up a dirt path for 5-10 minutes to reach the venue. Wear sneakers!
Where to buy a ticket: Buy at the gate or at local hostels (approx. 600 THB + free drink).
Highlight
The Modern Beach & Jungle Fusion
OXA Beach has quickly become one of the island's favorite venues. Located in Ban Tai, it perfectly blends a sandy beach vibe with a jungle canopy setting. It’s cleaner and more "chic" than the chaos of Haad Rin. Famous for its massive fire shows and excellent Tech-House DJs, OXA usually hosts parties on the days surrounding the Full Moon. It’s a great middle-ground: wild enough to be a party, but chill enough to have space to dance.
Opening Time: 20:00 – Late (Check their Facebook for specific dates around Full Moon).
Location: Ban Tai Beach (Between Thong Sala and Haad Rin).
How to get there:
Taxi: Located on the main road. Any taxi driver knows "OXA Beach."
Where to buy a ticket: Buy at the door (approx. 500-600 THB).
Pace yourself, hydrate, and catch a sunrise or two. Koh Phangan rewards those who balance celebration with island exploration.
