Gulf of Thailand: Samui, Phangan & Tao (conditions note)

By February, the Gulf is generally moving past the northeast monsoon, but breezy days and short-period swell can still affect exposed, east-facing shores. You’ll often find the smoothest water in sheltered bays, particularly on Samui’s north and west coasts like Bophut or Lipa Noi, and on Phangan’s west side. Ferries usually run on schedule, though occasional choppy crossings can occur during windy spells. Diving around Koh Tao improves toward March–June, but calm windows do appear in February. Plan flexible itineraries, choose morning boats, and favor leeward beaches when wind picks up. If you need absolutely reliable glassy seas in February, the Andaman is a safer bet, but the Gulf can still deliver great beach days with smart beach selection.
