Tham Lod Cave (Mae Hong Son)

The River Cave Adventure

Highlight: Located in the adventurous north, Tham Lod is a massive limestone cave system with the Nam Lang River flowing right through it. Visitors explore by bamboo raft, floating through darkness while a local guide with a kerosene lantern illuminates ancient stalactites, stalagmites, and prehistoric teak wood coffins hidden high on ledges. Millions of swifts and bats inhabit the cave, flying out at sunset in a spectacular display.

Opening Time: Daily, 08:00 – 17:00.

Location: Pang Mapha District, Mae Hong Son.

How to get there:

- From Pai (Nearest Landmark): It is about a 1-hour drive (50km) north of Pai.

- Transport: The best way is to rent a motorbike (scooter) in Pai or hire a private taxi/songthaew for a half-day trip. Most tour agencies in Pai Walking Street also offer daily van tours here.
