Thailand Expands China Air Route Talks to Chiang Mai & Hua Hin

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul led a senior Thai delegation to China from 16 to 20 July 2026 to strengthen tourism ties, including a forum in Chengdu on 18 July 2026. Meetings with Sichuan Airlines and Meituan focused on resuming and opening air routes to Chiang Mai, Hua Hin and U-Tapao and on expanding partnerships with Chinese digital travel platforms.

The official visit covered Shanghai, Chengdu and Beijing and brought ministers, tourism and investment chiefs, and business leaders together to pursue closer travel links and commercial cooperation. On 18 July 2026 the Prime Minister presided over a Thailand China Sichuan Investment and Economic Forum in Chengdu that included executives from western China. Separate meetings included discussions with Sichuan Airlines about air services and with Meituan about hotel and travel promotion features on a major Chinese consumer platform.
